WADDINGTON -- James R. "Dick" Mayette, passed away at his family home under the loving care of his family and Hospice, early Friday morning, September 7, 2018. Family and friends are welcome to call at Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM with the Waddington Volunteer Fire Department holding a service at 6:00 PM followed by the Sons of The American Legion Post 420. Funeral services for Dick will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Waddington with Rev. Arthur Garno officiating. Burial to follow immediately after in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington. A celebration of life reception will be held at the American Legion Post 420 in Waddington immediately following interment.
James R. Mayette, was born in Waddington, NY on March 27, 1939 to the late James and Nellie (Pitts) Mayette. He was the youngest of 12 children. In 1958, he graduated from Madrid High School and later continued his education at Canton ATC and Clarkson University. Dick married his beautiful bride, Mary Margaret McRoberts on April 15, 1961 at St. Mary's Church in Ogdensburg, NY with the Rev. Phillip Allen officiating. They soon started their own family and Dick began his future as taking on the role of business entrepreneur.
Dick was a self-made man who was truly a go getter. His impressive work history encompasses a wide variety of businesses and trades. Most notably was Dick's success as the owner of Nell Pitt Corporation DBA Fourth Coast Pollution Control.
While one of Dick's passions was travel, home was truly where his heart was. A lifelong resident of Waddington, he could often be found enjoying the St. Lawrence River. He loved boating and spending time on the water. Moments spent with family and friends were among his most cherished memories especially of those times spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His sense of humor and zest for life were truly the essence of who Dick was.
Dick was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 420, Waddington Lodge #393 F&AM and past member of the Waddington Volunteer Fire Dept.
Left to cherish the memory of Dick are, his wife Mary (Marg) of 57 years; daughter, Michele and Paul Jones; his three sons, Richard Mayette and companion Loni Thompson, Christopher Mayette, and Jonathon and Melissa Mayette all of Waddington. Along with six grandchildren, Amanda and Joseph Mittiga, Michael and Alyssa Hill, Jordan Mayette, James R. Mayette II, Jakob and Luke Mayette; five great-grandchildren; Mary Amelia Hamilton, Cooper Mittiga, Bryce and Carter Hill and Isabella Mayette along with a sister Nancy Goodrich-McIntyre and husband Robert of Fairfax Station, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his eight brothers, Robert, Wallace, Harold, Dale, Alfred, Merle, Donald, and William Mayette; and two sisters, Frances and Elizabeth.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be acknowledged to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US-11, Potsdam, NY 13676 in lieu of flowers.
