Funeral services for James A. Hunter, age 78 of Morristown and formerly of Hammond will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at the Brier Hill Fire Department with Pastor David Sheppard officiating. His place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park at a later date.
Calling hours will also be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the fire hall.
Mr. Hunter passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving is his wife Elaine; three sons, Edward (Linda) Hunter of Adams Center, John (Cheryl) Hunter of Hammond, Guy Hunter of Brier Hill; four daughters, Laura (Charles) Hierholzer of Hammond, Mary (Peter) Paquette of Morristown, Peggy (Calvin) Randolph of Morristown and Karen (Earl) Hiltz of Clay; A sister, Shirley Fuller of Ogdensburg; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was predeceased by two infant sons, Timothy and James Hunter; two infant sisters, Sharon and Betty Lou Hunter and a brother, Jean Hunter.
He was born on Sept 30, 1938 in Hammond NY, a son of the late Murray and Pauline (Catlin) Hunter. He attended Hammond School for his education, and later married Elaine Farrell on Sept 10, 1967 in Dekalb Junction with Rev. Best officiating their marriage.
During his career he was employed at Peretta Meat Packing, Natural Dam Paper Mill, NY Air Brake and Northern Packing. He was a former member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club and Brier Hill Fire Department. He enjoyed mowing lawns and fixing mowers, fishing, hunting, building go carts for grandchildren, watching movies, joking with others and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
