Funeral services for James H. Petell, age 79, of Watertown and formerly of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery later in the Spring. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at Frary Funeral Home, on 515 Caroline Street, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mr. Petell passed away on April 2, 2014 at his private residence in Watertown surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Petell is survived by a daughter, Marie Petell, of Watertown; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Valentia; a step-daughter, Linda Johnson, of St. Regis Falls; a step-son, Hollis Harris, of Morristown; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a step-son, Corey Emmons; brothers, Frederick Petell, Osias Dubrule, Edward Dubrule, Roy Petell and Joseph Petell; and sisters, Melvina Redmond, Anna Dubrule, and Lillian Locy.
James was born on April 9, 1934, in Ogdensburg, the son of Wilfred and Mary Gauthier Petell. He attended Ogdensburg Schools. He married Mabel Johnson on July 10, 1965 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Trombley officiating. She predeceased him on August 28, 2011. Mr. Petell worked for the City of Ogdensburg in the Water Department. He was employed for over 35 years with the City of Ogdensburg.
Mr. Petell was a 4th degree knight of the Knights of Columbus and was an active member with St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg and St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.
