Mrs. Jacqueline J. “Butchie” Francis, 66, of 9 Third Street, St. Regis, peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Jacqueline was born March 21, 1946 in Massena, the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Brown Konkoski. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Mitchell Jacobs after her father died in 1948 when she was 2 years old. Jacqueline attended St. Regis Mohawk and Salmon River Central Schools. She also went to a sewing school in Utica where she became a certified seamstress. On November 13, 1964, she married Leonard Francis; he tragically predeceased her on June 30, 1969. She later married Louis Francis, Jr. on April 25, 1970; he predeceased her on August 29, 1976.

Butchie was a homemaker who dedicated her life to her children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She once worked at Shield’s Slipper Factory for a short time. She truly enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and doing any type of crafts. Perhaps her greatest enjoyment was quilting, as she would make quilts as a fundraiser for the Autism Society of America.

Surviving Jacqueline are her children, Duane Francis and his companion, Michael Naccari of Syracuse, Denise and Lorne Clute, Darren Francis and his companion, Dawn Smith, and Dana Francis, all of Akwesasne; her grandchildren, Kanerahtonkie, Reece, Ainslee, Reagan, Averee, Daytona, Riley, and Daniel; her sisters, Patricia Thomas, Paulette and Lawrence Pyke, and Monica Jacobs, all of Akwesasne; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother in 1981; her stepfather in 1990; and her sister, Phyllis Louise Konkoski.

Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers beginning Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial following cremation will be in Kateri Cemetery.
