Jack Phillips, 77, of Clinton Street in Gouverneur, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 27, 2010 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.
Jack was born on March 17, 1933 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Harold and Katherine (Dunham) Phillips. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1956. He worked as an engineer for many years for Cives Corp. and retired as Professor Emeritus at Canton ATC after 20 years. Jack was a member of the Gouverneur Library Assoc., Vice President of the Gouverneur Museum, VFW Men’s Auxiliary, Kiwanis, he was a 32nd degree Mason, a Cub Scout Leader of Pack 21, Boy Scout Leader of Troop 22 and a founding member of the Delta Kappa Sigma fraternity in Canton.
Jack is survived by his wife of four years, Yvonne Chapman Phillips; his daughter, Stephanie Spedding of Fulton; and his son, Tyler of Syracuse. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Shirley in November of 1996.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June 1 from 4 until 7 p.m. in the downstairs Fellowship Hall at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church. His memorial service will follow in the upstairs sanctuary if the church at 7 p.m.
