Ira W. Parks passed away October 20, 2013 at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida with his family by his side.
Ira was born in Saint Regis Falls, on January 8, 1936 to the late John and Leola Parks. He enlisted August 1954, serving his country for four years in the United States Air Force. He worked on the Long Saulte Dam on the St. Lawrence Seaway and then as a rewind operator for the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill. He spent the majority of his career working for Aluminum Workers of America (Reynolds Metals) retiring in April 1991.
During retirement Ira enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques. He was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying NASCAR racing and baseball. He spent winters at his home in Port Orange, Florida where he was the treasurer of the HOA, called BINGO and enjoyed playing poker with friends.
Ira was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Linda, having been married for 53 years. He had four daughters, Terri (Brendan) Fear of Oswego, NY; Tracie (Tracy) Lucas of St. Regis Falls, NY; Tuesday (Randy) Barcomb of Chazy, NY; and Tara (Matthew) Dolan of Troy, NY. He cherished his eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Tchurekow, Joseph Fear, Mandee Lucas, Kyle Lucas, Krista Lucas, Matthew Godreau, Brittany Godreau and Selena Dolan. He had two sisters and four brothers, Marlene "Rose" Haynes of St. Regis Falls, NY; Harold (Gail) Parks of Moira, NY; David (Rosemary) Parks of Blacksburg, VA; Elaine (James) Ellis of Tupper Lake, NY; Donald (Karyn) Parks of Daytona Beach, FL; Gary (Julie) Parks, of Lebanon, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Parks and John Parks.
In keeping with family wishes, services will be held privately at their convenience.
