Mr. Howard H. Farmer, 88, of 7 Wilson Ave, passed away on Friday evening, November 5, 2010 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh.
Howard was born September 27, 1922 in Santa Clara, the son of Nelson Sr. and Alice Dewey Farmer. He attended schools in Santa Clara until going the US Army. He served in the US Army until his medical discharge. On July 12, 1944, he married Vivian M. Gurrola in Bombay. She predeceased him on June 7, 2008.
Howard worked at Alcoa for 37 years as a truck driver until his retirement. As a collector and restorer of antique cars, he was a member of the Massena Antique Car Club. He loved going to car shows and parades, was an artist and enjoyed music.
He is survived by his five children, Wayne Farmer and his wife Carol of Bedford IN, Carol Goolden and her husband Richard of Massena, Saundra Adams and her husband Bob of Massena, Steven Farmer and his wife Nancy of Massena; and Deborah Farmer of Massena; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Nelson Farmer, Jr. and his wife Carol of St. Regis Falls and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Joel T. Farmer on June 28, 1991; 2 sisters, Viola Murphy and Joyce Price; and a brother, Gerald Farmer.
There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Massena Rescue Squad or the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation.
