Herbert O. Beadle Jr., 87, Massena

Mr. Herbert O. Beadle Jr., 87,16 Sherwood Drive, passed away Monday, June 21, at the St. Regis Nursing Home after a period of failing health.

Herbert was born June 16, 1922 in Rochester, the son of Herbert O. Beadle, Sr. and Antionette Douglas Beadle. He graduated from high school in Syracuse. In 1940, he entered Colgate University, where he attended until 1943 when he was drafted in the US Army. While in the army, he served in the United States and European Theater of Operation. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on April 29, 1946. He returned to Colgate, receiving his Bachelors in 1947 and his Masters degree in 1948. On July 9, 1949, he married Catherine (Kay) B. Borrman at St Philips Episcopal Church in Norwood.

He worked as an administrative assistant during the construction of the Seaway from 1954-59. He was also employed as a Social Studies teacher at Massena High School for 32 years, until his retirement in 1980. During his career, he was a member of several professional organizations and was a former president of Massena Education Association. He was a junior and senior class advisor for many years, attending many of the class reunions over the years. He enjoyed boating, having been a member of the St. Lawrence Yacht Club for many years. He took great pride in having achieved his Eagle Scout badge as a young man. He enjoyed cross country skiing, painting, music, reading historical based books. He and his wife loved spending winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Kay; and several nieces, nephews, a special goddaughter, and many longtime friends.

Friends may call Friday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Charles Forbes officiating. Burial will be held privately in Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk.
