Helen E. Yerdon, age 82, of Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Helen was born on October 8, 1927 in the town of Macomb to the late William and Bertha (Leeson) Dashnaw. Her mother had died when Helen was very young and her father remarried and she was raised by her step mother, Hilda (Thayer) Dashnaw.
Helen attended Rensselaer Falls High School and was very proud that in 1975 she received her GED. She was a homemaker. She married Wendell L. Yerdon on September 24, 1952 in Galilee Parsonage with Rev. John G. Myers officiating. Wendell passed away on May 31, 2002. Helen was a member of the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church and the Gouverneur Senior Citizens and was a long time member of Tops.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan M. Spilman of Hailesboro and Vickie L. and Colin Graves of Gouverneur; four grandchildren, Mallory Graves of Gouverneur, Adrienne Graves of Syracuse, Kelsey Spilman and Kyle Spilman of Hailesboro; five brothers and their wives, Howard and Beverly Dashnaw of Kissimmee, FL, James and Joan Dashnaw of Black River, John and Gail Dashnaw of Silsby, TX, Gary and Ginger Dashnaw of Ft. White, FL, and Larry and Elthoung of Kissimmee, FL; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Kentner of Waddington, Arloween “Winkie” and John “Jack” Eurto of Norfolk and Bertha and Gary Haight of Eustis, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Dashnaw of Ogdensburg and Cindy Dashnaw of Florida.
Helen was predeceased by two brothers, Charles “Chub” and Julius “Spike” Dashnaw.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, June 26th from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with the funeral service following at 12:00 noon with Rev. Carol Bain officiating. The burial will follow at East Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur.
