Helen D. Cressey, 82 formerly of East Lincoln Ave. Waddington died Thursday morning (April 18, 2013) at St. Joseph's Nursing home, Ogdensburg where she had been a resident since November 2010.

Helen is survived by her children, Stephen M of Waddington; her daughter, Michele and husband John Patterson of Ogdensburg; her four grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle, Justin, and Abigail; a great grandson, Levi Charles; sisters Vada and Jack Dunham of Waddington, Marjorie Fisher of Madrid and Jean and James Cotey of Norwood; and a brother, Charles Dunn of Leo, IN.

Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick.

Helen was born in Canton February 23, 1931 the daughter of Charles and Marjorie (Connor) Dunn. Following her graduation from Norwood High School, Helen earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education at Plattsburgh State Teachers College. She taught in Willsboro schools and Gouverneur later substituted in Madrid-Waddington Elementary Schools. Helen was united in marriage to Maurice E. Cressey August 10, 1952 in Alexandria Bay.

Helen and Maurice had resided in Waddington area since 1963 where her husband was Superintendent of Madrid-Waddington School system. Maurice died August 4, 1992. Helen was very active in the United Methodist Church and an accomplished organist for her church as well as St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a long standing member of the Fulton Eastern Star Chapter # 515.

Friends and family are invited to call Saturday from 4-8 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington. The Fulton Eastern Star Chapter #515 will held services at the funeral home on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday (April 21, 2013) at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Waddington with Rev. Patricia Page and Shirley Martin Lay Speaker officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington.
