Harold W. LaMay, 89, 429 Stockholm-Knapp Station Road, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, October 16, 2012, at the Massena Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and Hospice.
Harold was born September 25, 1923, in Norwood, the son of William A. and Rose Bercume LaMay. He attended Norwood schools. On February 2, 1943, he entered the US Army, serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945. He married Mary A. McGee on April 18, 1942. She predeceased him on March 12, 1995.
Before entering the Army, he worked at the Norfolk Paper Mill. After returning home he worked as an electrician at Alcoa until his retirement in 1982. He and his wife ran a dairy farm for many years, complete with the usual assortment of barnyard animals. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening, and loved to play his guitar and harmonica.
Harold was a member of the Skirts & Flirts Square Dancers and the 25 year club at Alcoa.
Harold is survived by two children, Timothy and Janet LaMay and Sandra and Gary Donaldson, all of Massena; three grandchildren, Carrie Donaldson and her fiancé, Chad Lashua, Brian and Brenda LaMay, and Cory LaMay; and two great granddaughters.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Harold Jr.; a granddaughter, Robin M. Stephenson, October 27, 2010; a sister, Katherine Sellers, April 2, 2001; and his companion of many years, Hilda Merrill, December 25, 2010.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Thursday, 2-4 and 7-8 p.m., with a service at 8:00 p.m., with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Norwood, at the convenience of the family.
