Richville - Harold "Duke" Jenkins, Sr., age 86, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Harold was born October 7, 1927 in Watertown, the son of John and Maude Watts Jenkins. He served in the United States Air Force from 1945 to 1947. Harold married Maude Lancaster on October 29, 1949 in Philadelphia, NY.
He worked as a well driller and for Gouverneur Trucking Company for 18 years. Harold also worked at Fort Drum in the Motor Vehicle Transportaion Department from 1977 to 1993 when he retired.
Harold was a 50 year member of the Richville Vol. Fire Department, becoming exempt in 2003.
Harold was a huge Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed taking in a game when visiting family in Maryland. He also enjoyed dining on crabs and playing cards. Harold most enjoyed doing home improvement projects, working in his garden and yard and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Harold is survived by his wife, Maude; his seven children, Harold Jr. and Karen Jenkins of Richville, Dan and Shelly Jenkins of Gouverneur, Donny and Nancy Jenkins of Gouverneur, John Jenkins of Richville, Roy and Robin Jenkins of Gouverneur, Terry Jenkins of Richville and Tammy Jenkins and companion Peter Sequin of Richville; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with David Hart, pastor of the Presbyterian Stone Church and First Congregational Church, Ogdensburg, officiating and burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville. Calling hours are Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
