Harold C. McEathron, 88, Gouverneur

Harold C. McEathron, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur.

Harold was born October 15, 1921 in Pitcairn, the son of Merrell and Gertrude Finley McEathron.

He attended Geers Corners rural school and Hermon Central School. Harold served in the United States Army Air Force during WW II.

Harold was employed at International Talc Company for five years and at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. in Star Lake for twenty-six years and four days. He also was a schoolbus driver for a couple years and operated McEathron’s Taxi Service for ten years.

Harold was a life member of the Gouverneur VFW Post #6338, a member of the Albany American Legion, and the Massena AMVETS Post #4 since 1984. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and had lived on Bullard Street since 1950.

Harold married Mildred E. Rheome on May 17, 1945. Mildred passed away May 9, 1991.

He is survived by three sons, Ernest of Gouverneur, Ray and Sharon of Beaver Dams, and Randy and Annette of Gouverneur; four daughters, Carolyn and Floyd Simmons of Gouverneur, Karen and Gregory Davis of New Hampshire, Debra and Grant Davis of Richville, and Robin Jarboe Hall and Jeffery Hall of Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Sherry McEathron of Morristown; 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandchild; a brother, Lawrence McEathron of Washougal, WA; three sisters, Florence Hooper of Ogdensburg, Betty Glachman of Gouverneur, and Hazel Mashaw of Gouverneur; and several nieces and nephews.

Harold was predeceased by his wife; two sons, Harold and David McEathron; three sisters, Grace Hanna, Ruth Van, Geneva Etli; two brothers, Ernest and Frederick McEathron; a grandson, David McEathron Jr.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Wilfred Baez, pastor of the Gouvernuer United Methodist Church officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours will be today, Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
