Cornwall Island, ONT – Gregory Benedict, 60, 803 Island Road, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Cornwall Community Hospital.
Greg was born on December 12, 1952, in Bombay, the son of Robert L. and Germaine Jock Benedict. He attended school at Kawenoke, Ontario, and General Vanier in Cornwall. He first married Jean Benedict, that marriage ended in divorce. He then married Loretta Bero, on May 30, 1998, who survives him.
He worked on the bridge for Roundpoint Construction as a truck driver and for Canada Post for ten years as a mail carrier on Kawenoke. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #1479. Greg enjoyed R/C Racing, golf, bowling, hockey and NASCAR. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, and watching stock car races.
Also surviving Greg are his children, Tony and Jill Benedict of Akwesasne, June Mary Benedict of Cornwall, Adam Murphy of Sweden, Amanda Murphy of Cornwall and Justine Benedict of Akwesasne; two step children, Annie Bero of Akwesasne and Cody Back of Frogtown; nine grandchildren, Dallas, Autumn, Marissa, Mya, Amelia, Emery, Hana-Marie, Hailey, and Harlee; his mother and step-father, Germaine and Andrew Phillips of Fort Covington; his grandmother, Christina Jock of Snye; his sisters, Holly and Bernard Loran, Kathy and Raymond Mitchell, Jill Morgan, Jackie Benedict and Ramona Benedict; his brothers, Wesley and Marie Benedict, Matthew and Mary Kay Benedict and Wendell and Trisha Benedict; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Greg was predeceased by his dad, Robert L. Benedict, on January 21, 2012; his grandparents, Agnes and Elijah Benedict and Raymond Jock; and a brother-in-law, Francis McDonald; a niece, Sarah; and a nephew, Richard Morris.
Friends may call at Tri-District Elder Center, Kawenoke, at 4 p.m. Saturday until the service. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, wwith Pastor Willy Jock officiating. Cremation will follow.
