Gerald “Jerry” Morrill, 81, Hermon

Gerald "Jerry" Morrill of Hermon, passed away Sunday evening at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur. He was 81.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Hermon United Methodist Church. The burial ceremony will follow at Hermon Cemetery. The family has made arrangements with the Green Funeral Home in Hermon.

Jerry was born in Gouverneur on June 10, 1931 to Stanley and Helena Hamilton Morrill. He graduated from Hermon High School in 1950 Jerry married Shirley Leonard, his wife of 58 years, on July 7, 1954. Jerry was a loving husband and devoted father. He raised his family on a West Hermon dairy farm and he also worked in a local laborer's union on construction projects. Jerry loved to show cattle and was a 4-H leader for the Hermon Harvesters. Jerry was outgoing, friendly and a well-liked member of the Hermon community, which enabled him to serve the community of Hermon as Tax Assessor and Mayor.

He rarely missed a chance to watch his children and grandchildren play sports and enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, Syracuse University basketball, and the Hermon-DeKalb Demons. One of his favorite stories involved his trip to Yankee Stadium in 1961 to watch a doubleheader against the Tigers. Later that season, the Yankees would go on to win one of the 24 World Series championships that they won during Jerry’s life.

Jerry is survived by Shirley; five children, Thomas and his wife Barbara, LuAnn and her husband Tom, Carol and her husband Roger, Andrew and his wife Alice, and Steven and his wife Jill; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and two brothers, Stanley and James.

Jerry was predeceased by two children, Robert and Linda.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends and family make donations in Jerry’s memory to the National Hemophilia Foundation in recognition of one of his great grandchildren. The Morrill family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Reason, Dr. Lang, and the caring staff of E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur for the wonderful care that they provided to Jerry through the years.
