HEUVELTON -- Gerald “Dean” Outman, age 91, passed away on Saturday evening Dec. 16, at the St. Joseph’s Home surrounded by his loving family. Private graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Kevin O’Brien officiating.
Surviving are his children Ellen Outman of Watertown, Patricia Key & her husband Eric of Ogdensburg, Gina Outman & her husband Theron Aldrich; grandchildren Dean White, Amy Kaldor-Bull, Sarah White, Gary White Jr., Seadon White, Katie Aldrich & Maria Aldrich; great-grandchildren Garrison White, Gracie White, Lucy Kaldor-Bull, William Kaldor-Bull, Emelie Kaldor-Bull, Isaiah White, PJ White, Isaac White & Evie White; a son-in-law, Gary White of Heuvelton; along with many nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne on June 26, 2010; a daughter, Myrna White on June 20, 2017; and two brothers, Durwood & Donald Outman.
Dean was born on May 28, 1926 in the town of Macomb, a son of the late Archie & Pearl (Collins) Outman. He attended Pope Mills grade school, and graduated from Brier Hill High School, Valedictorian of the class of 1943. He then entered the US Navy during WWII earning his honorable discharge in 1946. He later married Jeanne Chambers on October 24, 1947 at the St. Raphael’s Rectory in Heuvelton.
During his career he worked at Alcoa for 5 years and transferred employment to General Motors in Massena where he worked as a maintenance welder for 28 ½ years until his retirement in 1987. Dean was a past member of the VFW in Ogdensburg and the American Legion in Heuvelton. He enjoyed furniture refinishing, fishing, gardening, hunting, watching sports, being outdoors and spending time with his family.
