A memorial service for 82-year old George Norman MacPherson, Jr., a resident of United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, and formerly of Ogdensburg, will be held July 22, 2014 at Maplewood Campus, in the Meditation Room, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John Kashorek, Hospice Chaplain, officiating.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam. Mr. MacPherson died at Maplewood, in Canton, on July 14, 2014. His request was that his remains be a gift to science for the furthering of medical education study.
“Mac” was born Jan. 20, 1932 in Syracuse, the son of George Norman MacPherson, Sr. and Mary (McKnight) MacPherson. George served in the U. S. Air Force in Korea from 1950 to 1954. He was a 1959 graduate of Syracuse University, with a BS degree. He received his Masters of Education from SUNY Potsdam.
George taught school in Lyons Falls from 1957-1963, and at St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg from 1963-1969. He then joined the staff at WSLB St. Lawrence Broadcasting in Ogdensburg, where he became their News Director. He retired from radio in 1991.
George was a former member of the BPOE Lodge 772, the Post 69 American Legion, and VFW Post 2936, all in Ogdensburg. Among his friends he is survived by are his beloved caregivers Bernie Bezio, Larry Worden, and Marilyn Coir.
