George F. Cleaveland, 92, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
Mr. Cleaveland was born on May 1, 1921 in Salisbury, CT, son of the late Paul and Gladys (Traver) Cleaveland. He graduated from Salisbury High School and worked his way to be a machinist in Waterbury, CT. George served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II, participating in battles in India and Burma. He married Mary Flynn, who predeceased him in 1995.
George owned and operated the Wells Hill Machine Company in Salisbury, CT; then operated an auto repair garage. He then worked construction; buying and repairing homes, then re-selling. He bought his last place in St. Regis Falls, where he remained.
He is survived by two sons, Peter Cleaveland of St. Regis Falls and George Michael Cleaveland of Saranac Lake.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Bradford and Ben.
Following in his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial with military honors will be held at the Gerald B. H. Soloman, Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
