Mr. Frank M. Cook, 73, of 91 Snye Road, passed away Wednesday evening, April 18, 2013 at Cornwall Community Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past year.
Frank was born on September 4, 1939 on Yellow Island, the son of the late Margaret Cook and Joseph Martin. He attended schools in Snye. A marriage to Veronica Oakes ended in divorce.
Frank first went to work on the construction of the Seaway before becoming an ironworker. He first with Local #711 in Montreal before going to Local #440 in Utica, where he retired. Frank also operated a family farm and raised horses. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing baseball where he owned a farm team. When he was younger, Frank enjoyed playing lacrosse. He was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Mary Terrance of Hogansburg; his 11 children and their spouses, Stan and Char Cook of Snye, John and Vincenette Cook of Snye, Theresa and David Deerhouse of Snye, Nora and Larry Brown of Ottawa, Jerome and Jen Cook of Boston, Richard Cook of Cornwall, Joe Cook of Snye, Patrick and Shana Cook of Snye, Jo Ann Johnson of Kanawake, Robin Oakes and Dean Cooke of Snye, and Mary Ann Peters of St. Regis; many grand grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frank was predeceased by his daughter, Susan I. Cook on October 20, 2004; two brothers, Raymond Cook and Joseph Martin, Jr.; and his sister, Marie “Mia” Martin.
Friends may call beginning 4:00 p.m., Friday until 12:00 noon, Sunday at Akwesasne Homemakers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sunday 1:00 p.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will be later in the spring at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
