RENSSELAER FALLS – Funeral services for Francis G. Stowell, 79, a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Heuvelton Street, will be held on Friday (Aug. 13, 2010) at 11 a.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Ron Stiles officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Mr. Stowell passed away early Monday morning at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Surviving are two sons Stephen Stowell of Chicago, Robert Stowell & his wife Cece of Heuvelton; a daughter Karen Stowell of Rensselaer Falls; grandchild Carmen Wahl; TJ Stowell, Crystal Stowell; brother Richard Stowell of Lowville; step-sons Thomas Fitzgerald of Arizona, Wayne & Virginia Stowell of Texas; step daughter Carrie Sherman of Buffalo; step-grandchildren Nathan Sherman, Matthew Sherman, and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
A brother Harry Stowell predeceased him.
Francis was born on July 14, 1931 in Canton, a son of the late Harry & Clara Mae (Condan) Stowell.
He graduated from Canton High School, and worked on a farm until becoming employed with Donnie Simmons Construction Company.
He married Carmen Townsend in 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Gouverneur. She predeceased him in 1969.
He then married Donna Powers in 1970. She also predeceased him in 2009.
He operated the Buck & Carms Bar Room in Rensselaer Falls for a period until becoming employed in the maintenance department at Kraft Foods in Canton until his retirement.
He was a member of the Star Lake American Legion, Heuvelton Amvets, Canton VFW, Ogdensburg Moose Lodge, Aldrich Fish & Game Club, Heuvelton Lions Club and the Rensselaer Falls Fire & Rescue Department.
He enjoyed 4-wheeling, playing cards, hunting, scratch off tickets, pull tabs and spending time with his family.
