WEST STOCKHOLM -- Mrs. Frances D. Stowe, 89, passed away Tuesday morning, November 14, 2017 at the United Helpers Riverledge Campus in Ogdensburg after a brief illness.
Frances was born March 10, 1928 in Binghamton, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Phillips) Duncan. She graduated from Binghamton High School and in 1950 she graduated from Cornell University. She later earned her Master’s Degree from SUNY Buffalo. She married J. Robert Stowe in September 1948, he predeceased her in 1986.
Frances worked was a Cooperative Extension Agent for Cornell Cooperative Extension for many years, retiring in 1985 from their Schoharie County office in Cobleskill.
As a member of the Massena Arts Association, she had a great love for art, painting, and crafting.
Frances is survived by her children and their spouses, Paul and Evelyn Stowe of Potsdam; Allison and Mike Aldrich of West Stockholm; and Sharon and Rick Patterson of Spring Grove, Illinois; her granddaughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Gene Weldon, Krista and David Hurley, Monica and Otis Simon, and Charlotte and Henry Knowles; nine great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Evalyn Duncan of Potsdam; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Frances was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Stowe in August 2015; a sister, J’Ann Herrick; and two brothers, Charles and Scott Duncan.
As per her wishes there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Potsdam First Presbyterian Church on November 27, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.
