Evelyn I. Cardinal, 92, of Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for Evelyn I. Cardinal, 92, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017, at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 10:00AM with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 3:00PM to 6:00PM on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. Cardinal passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Karen Elliott of Windsor, Ontario and Diane “Micah” Cardinal of Ogdensburg, NY; a son, Kevin Cardinal and his wife, Margaret, of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Terry Elliott, Amy Cox, Jonathan Cardinal, Justin Bland, Jason Bland, Miranda Chalut and Colleen Anderson; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a daughter, Kathie Bland of Portland, OR, in 2014 and three sisters, Margaret Hargrave, Jeanne Brown and Marilyn Shoppe.

Evelyn was born on March 3, 1925, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Edward J. and Mary A. McReynolds Sovie. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1942 and later graduated from Wallace School of Business in 1943.

Evelyn married Francis J. Cardinal on May 30, 1945 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Clarence Devan officiating. He predeceased her on October 20, 2004. Evelyn and her husband, Francis, owned and operated Cardinal Carpet and Flooring in Ogdensburg.

Evelyn was a member of the Red Hats Society, Friends of the Library and Claxton Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary. She was at one time a Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. Evelyn held the past position of President of the Hepburn Hospital Board, she also taught religion at Bishop Conroy and was past member of Ogdensburg Garden Club. Evelyn delivered for Meals on Wheels and was also active with Heart to Heart.
