
Mrs. Evelyn A. Hume, 88, of 2 Elizabeth Ave, peacefully passed away Saturday evening, June 23, 2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been admitted the previous day.
Evelyn was born January 7, 1924 in Massena, the daughter of the late Stuart and Alice Ross Hingston. She attended Massena Schools before moving to Spokane, Washington. After returning back to Massena, she received her diploma. On September 6, 1950, she married James K. Hume at the Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. David Sandstrum, officiating.
She was a private duty Home Health Care Aide and a Girl Scout leader for many years. When she was younger, she worked at Dr. Duane Holmes. Evelyn and her husband, Jim, were avid square dancers and belonged to the U-Wanna Squares. They also operated a shop that sold clothing for square dancers. Evelyn was a member of the Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid dog lover.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her adopted children, Patty and Danny Dibble of Winthrop; and many cousins including, Lester Ross of Chicago.
Friends may call Thursday 10 – 11 a.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Judith VanKennan, officiating. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery.
