Ethel Z. Brooks, age 88, formerly of Gouverneur, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus, Canton.
Ethel was born April 10, 1922 in Red Hook, the daughter of Peter and Pauline Masnica Zitz Sr. She was a graduate of Red Hook High School and lived in the Hudson Valley area until moving to Gouverneur in 1990 where she lived many years. Ethel moved to Canton in 2008 and became a resident of Maplewood Campus in March 2010. Ethel had owned and operated the Halfway Diner of Red Hook for several years.
Ethel was a past member of Gouverneur Country Club and enjoyed golf, bowling, and crocheting.
Ethel married Alvin D. Brooks on March 7, 1975 in Rhinebeck, and Mr. Brooks passed away February 3, 2005. She had previously been married to Martin W. Pulver Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Ann Pulver of Gloversville; two sons, Richard A. Pulver and his wife Linda of Gouverneur, and M. William “Bill” Pulver and his wife Valerie of Canton; a sister, Margaret Zahtila of Texas; four brothers, Peter and Betty Zitz of Rhinebeck, Frank Zitz of Florida, Leonard and Barbara Zitz of Florida, and Rudolph and Addie Zitz of Sanfordville; and several nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Battistoni and Pauline Lasher.
Funeral arrangements are private with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
