Mrs. Ernestine C. Elliott, 89, of 19A Elizabeth St., Auburn, formerly of Fort Covington, passed away in her sleep, Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Finger Lakes Center for Living.
She was born September 21, 1920, in Ste. Anicet, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Peter and Luella Moriarty Legault. She attended schools in Ste. Anicet, Quebec. Ernestine married LeRoy J. Elliott on June 15, 1940 in Ste. Anicet, Quebec. He predeceased her on September 25, 1999.
Ernestine worked at Shields Slipper Co. in Bombay, NY in the early 1940s. After her first child was born, she worked on the Elliott farm until retirement in 1978. She was well-known for her love of sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Among her other interests were country music and her excellence in pie making.
Surviving are her four children, Linda Elliott Dewey of Auburn, Sue Elliott Ives of Henderson, Lynne Elliott Richards of Clarksville, Tenn., and L.J. Elliott of Nashville, Tenn; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; three sisters, Winnie McDonough in Huntingdon, Quebec, Alfreda Tatem of Cornwall, Ont., and Claire Reynolds of Long Sault, Ont; and one brother, Darwyn Legault of Huntingdon, Quebec.
Mrs. Elliott was predeceased by her husband, her parents, five sisters, and two brothers.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Covington, NY, and a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Society.
Friends may call Friday, August 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. A mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Covington, NY, with the pastor Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Covington, NY.
