Elmeretta “Sis” Morrison, 88, Ogdensburg

The Lord called Elmeretta “Sis” Morrison, age 88, of Franklin Street in Ogdensburg, and formerly of Tupper Lake, and The Villages, FL to His table. There will be no calling hours and the funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Deacon Francis Bateman officiating. Mrs. Morrison passed away with family by her side on Friday (Oct 19, 2012) at the home of her daughter Barbara where she resided for the past nine years. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Surviving is her daughter, Barbara Michael of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Mark Michael and his companion Tina Demo, Marianne Streeter and Christine Dobbs of Ogdensburg and Mrs. Tanya (Larry) Colleton III of Scotia; great-grandchildren Brandon Dobbs of Rensselaer Falls, Jesse, Jack and Alijah Michael of South Carolina, Julie Dobbs of Ogdensburg, Andrew and Emily Streeter of Heuvelton and Sierra Colleton of Scotia; great-great-grandchild Kaylie Conant of Ogdensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Sis was predeceased by her son, William F. Morrison in 1969 and Robert E. Morrison and wife Janet in 1995; brothers Jack Narrow and wife Fran, William Martin and wife Eleanor, Elmer (Maurice) Narrow and wife Anne and Edward Narrow and wife Betty; and a great-grandson, Sean Christopher Michael.

She was born on March 30, 1924 in Tupper Lake, a daughter of Elmer and Estella (Woods) Narrow. She graduated from Tupper Lake High School and was married to Frank H. Morrison on July 2, 1944. The marriage ended in divorce in 1976. Sis worked several years at the Tupper Lake Dress Factory, and in 1973 she was employed by Sunmount Developmental Center and obtained an Associate of Science Degree from Empire State College as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant in 1981.

Her retirement began in 1989. Sis was very active in the Tupper Lake community as a member and officer of the Women’s Bowling League, Couples Bowling League, President of the Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary, Commander and Senior Vice commander of the DAV Auxiliary as well as a NYS Delegate, a member of the Women of the Moose, an active participant in the Heart Fund Drive, a Girl Scout Leader, President of the American Legion Auxiliary, 2nd Vice-President of the Tuberculosis-Respiratory Disease Association, Christmas Seal Campaign Chairwomen, American Heart Association member, Community Christmas Fund member, a Women's Republican Club President, an active volunteer at Sunmount Veterans Administration Hospital for many years and a member of the Buckhorn Hunting Club. In The Villages, FL she was a member of the Women’s Golf League and participated in the Senior Citizens Olympics.
