Eleanor J. “Ellie” Jeanette, age 61, of S. Russell, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.
Calling hours will be on Friday, October 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards. The funeral service will be on Saturday at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with lay speaker Marilyn Constantine officiating.
Ellie was born on December 27, 1948 in Ogdensburg to Howard and Greta (Finley) Baxter. She attended Canton Central School and went on to ROBI Business School in Ogdensburg. Ellie married Thomas M. Jeanette on October 21, 1966 at the Russell United Methodist Church.
Ellie had worked as a secretary at Canton ATC and then went to work as a teacher’s aid for nine years at Knox Memorial Central School. She then became the manager of the Whipperwill Diner in Russell for 17 years. Ellie was a member of the Emerald City Marine Corp. Ladies Auxillary where she took part in the Toys for Tots program. Ellie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her computer, her flower gardens and the casino.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas of S. Russell; two sons and their wives, Timothy O. and Kimberly Jeanette and Barry G. and Courtney Jeanette all of S. Russell; four brothers, Cyril Baxter of Liverpool, Francis Baxter of Red Mills, Edward Baxter of Canton and Charles Baxter of Syracuse; three sisters, Clara Shannahan of S. Russell, Phyllis Navoian-Baxter of Liverpool and Anne Smith of Phoenix, NY; and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Greta Baxter; two brothers, Donald and William Baxter; and two sisters, Mildred Baxter and Betty Richards.
