Funeral services for Elaine M. McCarthy, age 70, of Morris Street, Ogdensburg were held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours were held on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. McCarthy passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at her home unexpectedly.
Mrs. McCarthy is survived by her husband, Joseph; three sons, Scott and his wife, Jean, Daniel and his wife, Autumn, and Michael and his wife, Nicole; one daughter, Kelly O’Hickey and her husband, Ciaran, of Rathcoole, Ireland; one brother, Edward Premo and his wife, Cheryl, of The Villages, FL; one sister, Valerie Premo; and fifteen grandchildren, Morgan, Caitlyn, Conor, Sinead, Liam, Brandon, Michael, Rori, Rowen, Aine, Aislyn, Cael, Mattie, Kyra and Isabella.
She was predeceased by one sister, Donna Langstaff, in 1968.
Mrs. McCarthy was born on November 5, 1943 in Gouverneur, the daughter of Edgar and Dorothy Wicks Premo. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1962. She married Joseph McCarthy on July 10, 1971 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Msgr. Robert McCarthy officiating. Elaine first worked at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in 1967 as a Therapy Aide. In 1998 she retired as a Social Worker.
Mrs. McCarthy loved going to the casino and spending time in her pool. Her greatest love of all was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ogdensburg Zonta Club for many years in which she held various positions.
