
Funeral services for Edward S. Ashton, age 65 of Lake Street in Ogdensburg, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (May 11, 2012) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, with Deacon Francis Bateman officiating. Military funeral honors detail will be at Foxwood Memorial Park following the funeral service.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday (May 10, 2012) from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Ashton passed away Monday (May 7, 2012) at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving is his wife, Carol; a son, Edward Ashton III of Albany; a daughter, Lisa Phillips and her husband Mark of Albany; step-son Michael Ferris and his wife Erin; step-daughters Jodi Ferris and her companion Steve Rand and Stacey Barney and her husband Doug all of Ogdensburg; and grandchildren Chandler and Carson Barney, Brandon Ferris, Morgan Gagnon, Gracelind, Greta and Graeah Ferris and Lexah Rose Pyskaldo.
He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Ashton; and a brother, Charles Ashton.
Ed was born on July 21, 1946 in Niagara Falls, a son of the late Stanley and Rosemond (Ferguson) Ashton. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and enlisted in the US Navy from 1964 – 1968. After receiving his honorable discharge, he re-enlisted with the US Army Reserves where he served an additional 25 years of dedicated service to his country. Although a previous marriage ended in divorce, he again found love when he married Carol J. Wright on June 15, 1991 in Ogdensburg. Ed was employed 32 years as a machinist with Alcoa in Massena, and retired in 2002.
He was a member of the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge, Am Vets Post 19 and Past Commander of the Ogdensburg American Legion. He enjoyed boating, fishing, watching NASCAR, traveling, camping and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
