
Funeral Services for Dr. Thomas W. Duda, age 68, will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Dr. Duda passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Dr. Duda is survived by his wife Virginia; his uncle, Junior Duda, of Massachusetts; a special aunt and uncle, Mable and Robert Phillips, of Hickory, PA; and several cousins.
Dr. Duda was born in Springfield, MA on December 31, 1943 to William and Polly (Koss) Duda. He married Virginia Smith on December 31, 1983 at Holy Cross Church in Erie, PA with the Rev. Daniel Dymski officiating. He graduated from the Bloomfield High School in Connecticut. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Connecticut and his Master's degree from Syracuse University. He received his Doctorate from the University of Sarasota Florida.
He first went to work at Penn State, later DuBois Campus at Penn State. He later went to work at Canton ATC which became SUNY Canton until his retirement. He was awarded the Emeritus Status from SUNY Canton. He headed tenure accreditation for Canton ATC. He was awarded the Distinguished Professor Award early in his career and was also awarded the Golden Apple Award twice, which was an award by Phi Theta Kappa for helping the students to achieve their best. He belonged to the Tom Duda Orchestra which specialized in Polka music.
He was also a hobby farmer and mechanic. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed old cars. He was active in St. Mary’s Cathedral.
