Dr. Raphael Escoe, 86, a well-known Massena dentist died Monday afternoon (January 14,2013) at the Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday.
Services for Dr. Escoe will be Thursday (January 17, 2014) 10:00 a.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home with Pastor Judith VanKennen officiating. Burial will follow in Adath Israel Cemetery.
Dr. Escoe is survived by daughters, Robin and Dr. Paul Dunbar of Winslow, ME and Sarah Escoe of Grove; a son, Benjamin Escoe of Albany; and four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Raphael was born in New York City March 5, 1926 the son of Reuben and Mollie (Cherney) Escoe. He did his under graduate studies at City College in New York and his dental studies at New York University graduating in 1953. In 1954 he started his practice in Massena practicing right up until the time of his passing. In later years Dr. Escoe turned to making dentures for Massena area residents. Dr. Escoe's greatest joy was practicing dentistry serving North Country families for over 59 years.
He married Dorcas "Dody" McCarthy June 1957 in Massena. Dody died January 2, 2004. He was a long time member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge #513. Raphael proudly served in the US Army during WWII.
