Mrs. Dorothy Irene “Dot” Caldwell, 86, of 170 McGee Road, went to heaven on Saturday evening, October 9, 2010 at the Massena Memorial Hospital with the support of her family and Hospice.
Dot was born March 10, 1924, in Ottawa, Ontario, the daughter of the late Frank and Harriet Siddell Day. She was married to Michael W. Caldwell, who predeceased her. She later fell in love with the late Robert J. McDonald, who also predeceased her after 35 years together.
Dorothy loved taking care of children and being at home. She was known for her “Green Thumb” and loved plants, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed embroidering, making recipe books, crafting, all animals, and most of all loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by eight children, Donna Brenner of Kitchener, Ontario, Linda Cuff of Weedsport; Carol and Wayne Halstead of Weedsport; Roger “Doogie” Caldwell of Akwesasne, Chandra Caldwell of Massena; Blaine and Barbara Caldwell of Oklahoma; Robert and Susan Caldwell of Chase Mills, Robin and Ray Slowman of Akwesasne and Michael and Dianne McDonald of Louisville; and 21 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren; and long time loving friends, Nancy and Church Herman. She will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mabel Day; a son, Michael A. Caldwell; two grandchildren, Lucinda and Matthew Caldwell; and one great grandchild, Joseph.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 11:00 a.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, officiating.
