Funeral services for 81 year old Mrs. Dorothy E. Mitchell of Potsdam, will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Garner Funeral Service. Andrew and Dale Burnett will conduct the service.
Burial will follow the services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Diane (William) Spencer Jr. of Varysburg, Karen (Frank) Keleher of Norwood, and Tracy (Joseph) Fieldson of Waddington; a daughter in law, Barbara Wells of Brooksville, FL; two stepsons, Steve and Roy Lee Mitchell; and 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Mitchell; a son, David Wells; and four brothers and sisters.
Dorothy E. Mitchell was born on March 30, 1931 in Winthrop, to the late Kenneth and Lena Lewis Cyrus. She was a Potsdam Central High School graduate. She had a marriage to Orval Wells in 1948 that ended in divorce. She then was married to Roy Mitchell in 1976. She worked at Potsdam State Teacher’s College for many years retiring in 1987.
