
Doris "Toni" Lewis, 80, passed away Tuesday June 5, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, where she had been under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Doris was born on April 30, 1932 in Schenectady, the daughter of Earl and Zella Tymeson Winders. Toni graduated from Scotia High School and furthered her education at Adelphi College on Long Island. She was a home economics teacher at Hermon School until she and her husband started their family. Toni married Frank "Luke" Lewis on June 25, 1955.
Toni was a member of the Hermon/Canton chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Hermon Library board, Home Bureau, and served as treasurer of the Hermon United Methodist Church for over twenty years. Toni was selected as the AARP Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year for 2001 in St. Lawrence County. She would be the first to volunteer her time and efforts to anyone who needed it.
She enjoyed kayaking, knitting, reading, helping others, spending summers at the family cottage on Stinson Lake in NH, and was an animal lover.
Toni is survived by her loving husband Frank “Luke”; three sons, Charles of Chester, NH, Jeffrey of Maynard, MA, and Gregory of Galena, MO; three daughters, Kathryn Riley-Perry of Syracuse, Karen Schwotzer of Manchester, NH, and Kimberly Lewis of Candia, NH; and eight grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 9th at 10:30 a.m. at the Hermon United Methodist Church with Rev. William Hart officiating. Calling hours are Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Hermon.
