Donald Ross Collette, 87, formerly of the North Country

Donald Ross Collette, 87, a resident of Copperas Cove, Texas and originally from the North Country, died Friday March 25, 2013 after a lingering illness.

Donald was born on September 18, 1925 in Brandon New York, the son of the late Henry and Mamie (Bushey) Collette. He married his first wife, Renata Catherina Lurssen of Bremen Germany, on December 23, 1952. Their marriage lasted over 55 years until Renata’s death in January 2008. Donald Married again in June of 2011 to the former Lydia Weeks, a widow and close friend.

Mr. Collette enjoyed a long and active life. His military service took him around the world. He served with the Navy during World War II and, after the war, joined the Army, from which he retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1965. Settling in Copperas Cove, Texas, close by Fort Hood, he worked for the local school system for a further 22 years where he was in charge of all plumbing and heating maintenance. Upon his retirement from the school system, he worked as a licensed independent plumber for a further 10 years until retiring for good in 1998.

Mr. Collette is survived by his wife, Lydia; his son, Ronald, both of Copperas Cove; a sister, Edna Goodrich of North Rose; a foster sister, Grace Rabideau, of Moira; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to his first wife, Renata; he was predeceased by five brothers, Leo, Edward, Carl, Roy and Leonard; and a sister, Zita (Tougas) Collette.

Interment will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas at a later date.
