AKWESASNE – After a brief illness, Mrs. Dolores R. Phillips, 74, of 1108 Drum St. Road, and a longtime resident of Lancaster and Rochester, New York, passed away Friday morning, March 14, 2014, with her family by her side.
Dolores was born November 19, 1939 in Snye, Quebec, daughter of the late Mitchell and Theresa Cook Phillips. She attended schools on the reservation and married Arthur Phillips in June of 1959. Arthur predeceased her on March 27, 1982.
She was a homemaker, also working for Fanny Farmers in Rochester Until her retirement and returned to the Reservation in 2009. Dolores was a nurse’s aide at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Lancaster. Dolores was a member of the Akwesasne Committee Death Benefits Group.
She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo, baking and reading. She also thoroughly enjoyed hosting parties, reuniting and re-connecting with her many friends in Akwesasne.
Dolores is survived by her children, Ronald Phillips of Lancaster; Elaine Phillips and Bart Adams of Bergen; Elizabeth and Gregory Watt of Chili, NY; Michael and Lisa Phillips of Akwesasne; and Jennifer Phillips of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Jones; three brothers, Louis and Nancy Phillips, Abram and Patricia Phillips, and William and Helen Mitchell, all of Akwesasne; a sister-in-law, Curly Phillips, Akwesasne; her beloved cats, Betty and Stinky; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William and Helen Phillips on August 12, 2010.
Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers, beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, until 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester later in the spring at a time to be announced.
