David W. Vondell, 42, formerly of Canton

David W. Vondell, 42, of Williams Street, Malone, passed away on December 12, 2012, at New York Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. David was born December 8, 1970 in Canton, NY, the son of Kenneth Vondell and Mary White Vondell. He married Jeanne Snyder, November 2010 in Hawaii with a reception in Malone.

David graduated from Chateaugay Central School in 1989 and earned a Bachelor Degree from SUNY Potsdam. Following graduation he owned and operated the Owly Out Restaurant in Merrill, NY from 1994 to 2011. During high school and college he worked for Agway Energy in Malone. David also worked for the Department of Corrections for nine years, retiring due to ill health.

In high school, David played basketball, participated in his senior play, enjoyed water and downhill skiing, four-wheeling, camping, snowmobiling, golfing, bowling and most especially, he enjoyed hunting at the Rocky Brook Hunting Club.

David loved spending time with his many friends, especially children who always enjoyed his candy box and orange slices. His fondest times were spent with his nephew, Sullivan.

Besides his wife, Jeanne Snyder Vondell, David is survived by his mother, Mary White Vondell of Chateaugay Lake; his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Mary-Lou Vondell; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Erynn Vondell of Fort Covington; a brother-in-law, Stacey Bilow, and his nephew, Sullivan Bilow of Malone; Uncle John White and his wife Donna of Monroe, NC; Aunt Donna and her husband Paul Kevil of Carlsbad, NM; Uncle Jeffery Vondell of Ogdensburg; a godson, Jack Earle of Chateaugay; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Maueve Snyder of Moira; a sister-in-law, Maueve Jock of Bombay; a brother-in-law and his wife, Michael and Karen Murphy of Moira; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by his sister, Suzanne Vondell-Bilow, his grandparents, Don and Elizabeth White of Ogdensburg, and Leta and Les Vondell of Rensselaer Falls.

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 21 at the Chateaugay Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay on Saturday, December 22 at 1 p.m.
