MASSENA: Darwin "Whitey" J. Sucese, 78, of Belmont Ave. and lifelong resident of Massena, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice.
He was born on April 25, 1935 in Massena the son of Albert and Alice (LaComb) Sucese. Whitey was employed at GM Powertrain for 41 years as the head cook in the cafeteria.
He married Anna LaLonde in 1957 at the Church of Nativity Cornwall, Ontario, she predeceased him in 1961. He was predeceased by his wife Irene Losey. He later married Marjorie Bray on June 24, 1989, and she predeceased him on August 15, 2006.
Whitey is survived by his children, Maryann and husband John Gurwell of Riverside, Ca, Wanda and Jeffery Mattison of Massena, Philip Sucese of TN. 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a brother Kenneth of Madrid, many nieces and nephews, also a sister Shirlene Lavine, and brothers, Phillip LaComb, Robert, Donald and Jack Sucese.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to the American Cancer Society.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena.
Funeral services for Darwin J. “Whitey” Sucese will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Scott D. Fobare presiding. Burial will take place following the service in Calvary Cemetery.
