Dale Gilbert Sochia, 73, Parishville, was born May 25, 1939. He passed away Oct. 1 at Fletcher Allen Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
He attended Parishville-Hopkinton Central School, before entering the United States Army in 1958. He was honorably discharged.
He worked for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department under “Lefty Allen,” then became a police officer for the Potsdam Police Department for over 20 years. He retired to become a local judge and superintendent of highways for the Town of Parishville.
He was the past commander of the VFW in Potsdam and the Potsdam American Legion.
He loved working outdoors, enjoyed hunting, boating and being with his friends.
He is survived by his wife Nancy (Schneider) Sochia; his four children Ivan Sochia, Carmela (Tim) Young, Yvonne (Robert) Howe, Kelly (Trevor) D’Amour; a sister, Elaine (David) O’Brian; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Per Dale’s wishes, everyone is invited to gather to celebrate his life Saturday, Oct. 6 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the VFW in Potsdam.
