Conrad James "Sonny" Felix, 81, formerly of Richville and Florida, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Texas.
Conrad was born April 17, 1931 in Madrid, the son of Sidney and Mary Currier Phelix. Sonny attended schools in Madrid and served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1951. He was employed at Fullington's Garage, worked on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, and served as a rural mail carrier in Richville and Gouverneur for 31 years, retiring in 1992. Sonny married Margaret Pritty on November 28, 1952 at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church.
The couple moved to Florida shortly after retirement. Sonny enjoyed traveling the country in the family motorhome, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, shooting pool, and helping his friends and neighbors, especially with his carpentry skills. He had been a member of the Richville Vol. Fire Department, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Rural Mail Carriers Provident Guild.
Sonny is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Margaret; three sons, Conrad Felix Jr. of Texas, Wilbur Felix of Georgia, and Steven Felix of Texas; three daughters, Luanne Felix of New York, Karen Forney of New York and Shelly Stone of New York; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Price of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son who died at birth, Michael Howard Felix; three brothers, Winifred, Arthur, and Franklin Phelix; and four sisters, Jennie Hitsman, Agnes Phelix, Letha McKara, and Ruth Willard.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. James Meola officiating and the committal following at Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg. Calling hours are Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
