Colleen Minckler, 56, Gouverneur

Colleen S. Minckler, 56, of Gouverneur, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Colleen was born on September 18, 1956 in Albany, the daughter of John and Eulie Reff Burke. Colleen graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1973. She married James E. Minckler on June 1, 1974 at St. James Church in Gouverneur.

Colleen has worked at many places over the years including the Clearview Restaurant, Gouverneur Elks Lodge, the papermill in Natural Dam, Bonnie Castle, St. Lawrence University, P&C Supermarket, and the Gouverneur Central School bus garage. Colleen was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur, the Gouverneur Elks Lodge #2035, and the Gouverneur American Legion.

Family was always most important to Colleen. She was always on the go and putting everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. Growing flowers and gardening were among her favorite activities, along with mowing her lawn. She had a green thumb and was a wonderful cook. Colleen enjoyed reading, puzzles, crossword puzzles, and was a fan of old movies and classic television shows. Colleen loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow over the years.

Colleen is survived by her husband, Jim; two sons, Jim (Teresa) Minckler of Gouverneur and John Minckler of Gouverneur; three daughters, Aimee Minckler of Gouverneur, Kristy (Chris) Jorgenson of LaFargeville and Donna Currier of Massachusetts; three sisters, Amy (Stan) Zimnicki of Broad Brook, CT, Lisa (Will) Feehan of Deposit and Bridget (Brian) Davis of Deposit; one brother, Bruce (Christine) Burke of Hollis, NH; five grandchildren, Cody, Chloe, JD, Paul and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents who both passed away in 2008.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur with Fr. Stephen Rocker officiating and burial in New St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, October 16th from 1-3 pm and 5-7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
