LISBON -- Bonnie L. Wright, 62, died Thursday afternoon in Claxton-Hepburn Hospital of complications from ovarian cancer.
She retired as the children’s librarian at Ogdensburg Public Library, a job she deeply loved and which allowed her to help many children become readers. She knew many families in the city and area from her story time hours and was gratified when one of her story time children grew up and followed her as children’s librarian in the city.
She was a member of the choir at Notre Dame Church, joining that church when she came to the city in 1993. She had a talent for friendship and leaves many close friends in that choir. She was also a member of the Ogdensburg Garden Club and close to many of its members.
She was born in Rome, NY, the daughter of Dr. Daniel B. Mecca and Norma Vitale Mecca, attending schools in Rome and Baldwinsville. She graduated from Nazareth College and Albany Library School. She married her husband in 1996 after meeting him in the library for a reference question. They spent 22 wonderful years together cooking, gardening, reading and tending a house with many rescue pets.
She leaves a husband, Timothy, her mother, Norma Mecca of Canton; a brother in law, William Wright of Ogdensburg, and his wife Karen and children Thomas and Ellen; and numerous beloved relatives in Rome, including Aunt and Uncle Dolores and Rocky Nigro, Theresa Mecca and her many children, cousins Nancy Nigro, Marie Nigro, Kathryn Saraceno, Bianca Berg, and many other relatives who knew her and loved her for her kindness.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday March 14, 2018 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. James Shurtleff officiating. Funeral arrangements are with Fox and Murray Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ogdensburg Public Library, 312 Washington St., Ogdensburg NY, to benefit children’s reading programs, are appreciated.
