Beulah J. “Betty” Blair Miller, 97, 52 Douglas Road, Massena, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the home of her niece, Betty Stiles, 23280 Co. Rte. 47, Carthage, where she had been lovingly cared for by family for the past week.

Betty was born February 4, 1916, in Potsdam, the daughter of the late George and Lena Mae Westcott Manfred. She was a 1934 Graduate of Potsdam High School, and on August 17, 1957 she married Carl A. Blair, at the Methodist Church in Massena, with Rev. William O. Thomas officiating. Carl predeceased her on December 18, 1972. On July 27, 1996 she married John B. Miller at the First Baptist Church, Massena, with Pastor Stephen Darrow presiding. John predeceased her on September 24, 2002.

She worked as a secretary in the main office at ALCOA, and also at the Warner Bros. Corset Factory in Massena for many years. Betty also worked the desk at the Park Inn Motel for 13 years. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Rebecca Lodge #348, where she was a past Noble Grand; Macabee’s Hive #500, where she was past Commander; and the Royal Neighbor’s of America, where she was a past Oracle, and the Cretona Chapter #516 Order of Eastern Star; and also a former member of the Ladies of the Macabee’s.

Betty was a member of Central Baptist Church, and also taught Sunday School at the First United Methodist Church 17 years. She loved to read, and travel all over the United States, including Alaska by cruise ship with two grand nieces, which she enjoyed thoroughly. She also travelled to Europe on a guided tour with her niece Betty and her husband Paul.

She is survived her nieces and nephews, Betty Louise and Paul Stiles, Carthage, Iona Johnson, Heuvelton, James and Jackie Manford, PA, Gary and Diane Manford, Sarasota, FL, and Jerry and Pat Manford, Sarasota, FL; and a step daughter, Sandy and Warren Dinkeldine, Dade City, FL.

Betty was predeceased by four brothers.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, on Monday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Herbert E. Spence officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Massena.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Central Baptist Church, Massena.
