Betty Smith Johnson, 372 St. Hwy 68, Colton died at the age of 86 early Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Potsdam, on November 3, 1925, a daughter of Roy and Emily (Bicknell) Smith. She was married to Morris Johnson August 9, 1953. Morris died August 9, 1992.
She graduated from Colton High in June 1944 and from Ogdensburg Business School in June 1947 with an accounting diploma.
Betty was employed by Gaines and Sherman until 1953. Morris and Betty ran the Chevron Gas and Grocery Store in Colton for ten years. After selling the store she returned to H.W. Gaines, Inc. until she retired.
She enjoyed skiing, golf and knitting for the neighborhood center. Most of all she enjoyed playing with her Great-Grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ronald and wife Geraldine; three grandchildren, Scott and wife Julie of Colton, Vicki Conklin and husband Jeff of Colton and Pam Jenkins and husband James of Colton; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Law of Long Island, and Mrs. Lee Sady Vebber of Pierrepont; and one brother, William “Bill” Smith of Colton.
He was predeceased five brothers, Kenneth, Roswell, Frank, Durwood and Richard; and a sister, Cassie Bartlett.
Funeral arrangements are with the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the West Parishville Cemetery.
