Betty J. Barney, 85, passed away Monday (Oct. 1, 2012) at the Champlain Valley Physician Medical Center, Plattsburgh. Funeral arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Betty was born September 9, 1927, in Dickinson Center the daughter of the late Carroll & Myrtle (Dale) Waste. She was a 1946 graduate of the St. Regis Falls School. Betty married James Barney July 16, 1946 the couple later divorced. For over thirty years, she was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, working in the Dickinson Center and North Bangor area. She, also, worked at the lunch counter in the old Montgomery Wards store in Potsdam.
Betty enjoyed crocheting and knitting and she blessed each of her grandchildren with a quilt. She loved to relax with a hot cup of tea and a crossword puzzle.
Betty is survived by her children, Sharon and John LaShomb of Lawrenceville, and Wanda Gerrish and her fiancé Charles Laughlin of Oklahoma; sister-in-law Mary Willis of Shawnee Kansas; a cousin Pattie Insolaco of Pittsford; grandchildren John and Sarah LaShomb of Lawrenceville, Jason and Heather LaShomb of Brewerton, Carrie and Richard Fountain of Dickinson Center, Paula Malette of Moira, Joseph and Chrissy Malettte of Loganville, Georgia; and nine great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her beloved stepmother, Myrtle (Mosier, Guyette) Waste; and her brothers Dale Waste and Murray Willis.
Family and friends are invited to attend Betty’s calling hours Thursday (Oct 4, 2012) from 4-8 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty will be held Friday (Oct. 5) at 11 a.m. at the Dickinson Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Work presiding.
A memorial dinner will be held at the Dickinson Center Fire Department immediately following the funeral service for family and friends.
