Beryl E. Shirley, 86, 153 Kingsley Rd, passed away on Sunday morning, February 10, 2013, at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, after being transferred there from Massena Memorial Hospital on Monday.
Beryl, was born on August 22, 1926, in Massena, the daughter of Howard and Leila Emmons Green, and she was a graduate of Massena High School. She married Max Allen Shirley on August 22, 1947 at the Advent Christian Church in Massena.
She was a homemaker, who once taught school on Croils Island, before starting her family. She also worked at the MICA Plant during the war. She enjoyed knitting and playing the piano, and was a former member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Massena, faithfully playing the piano for many years. She had most recently been attending the Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church. Beryl also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, where she worked in the office.
Beryl is survived by her husband of 65 years, Allen; four children, Myron Shirley and his wife Cindy, Carol Shirley-Brothers and her husband Bradley and Donald Shirley and his wife Trudy, all of Louisville, and Mary Jane LaClair and her husband Anthony of Moira; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce and Clarence Morse of Corning, and Marjorie and Daniel Raught of Florida; a brother, Elwyn and Margie Green of Gloversville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stacey Garcia, on December 18, 2008; and two sisters, and four brothers.
Friends may call Wednesday 1-3 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Bentley McQuinn officiating. Burial will be at the Lousiville Community Cemetery in the spring.
