Mr. Benjamin F. Jacobs, 78, of 46 Kateri Tekakwitha Street, St. Regis, passed away Monday morning, September 3, 2013 at Cornwall Community Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 7 weeks.
Benjamin was born December 17, 1936 in Akwesasne, the son of the late Frank Jacobs and Ann Benedict. At the death of his mother during childbirth he was raised by his paternal grandmother, Susan Jacobs. He attended schools on St. Regis Island.
Benjamin first worked as an ironworker with Local 823 before going to work as a laborer for Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. He loved spending his summers camping and gardening on St. Regis Island. He also enjoyed driving in golf cart around St. Regis Village and spending time with his dog, Baby.
He survived by his brother, Wallace and Lynn Thompson of Akwesasne; his sisters, Pauline Cook, Virginia and Scott Thomas, Rebecca and Timothy Thompson, Roseanne Thompson, and Lisa and Mike Swamp, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Thursday 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Regis Catholic Church on Friday, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jack Downs Celebrating.
