Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - 2:48 pm

Arthur “Art” A. Austin, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Clifton – Fine Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Honoring Art’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Clare, will be at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by French Funeral Home, Edwards.

Art was born in Edwards to the late George Austin, Sr. and Elsie (Webb) Austin. He attended area country schools and has lived in Fine for most of his life. Art worked for the Newton Falls Paper mill for 40 years before retiring in 1991 as foreman.

Art was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always busy keeping up his chores and enjoying the simple things in life. Art’s sense of humor and quick wit endeared him to all who knew him for many years or just a few short weeks.

Art married Geneva A. Hubbard on October 28, 1951 at Geneva’s parents’ home in Oswegatchie. The couple’s 60 years of marriage went so smoothly simply because Art seemed to give “Ma” whatever she wanted.

In addition to his wife, Art is survived by his son, Alfred “Hap” A. Austin of Oswegatchie; his daughter, Geneva “Tiny” A. Blackburn of Star Lake; four sisters, Sarah McBroom, Nora Finley, Eva Peck and Elsie Fifield; and twelve grandchildren, several great–grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his six brothers, George Austin, Jr., Andrew, Edwin, Charles, Alvin “Tarz”, and Aloysious “Pee Wee”.

Donations given in memory of Art may go to the Clifton – Fine Hospital, 1014 Oswegatchie Trail, Star Lake NY 13690.
