Arthur “Archie” Deshane, 66, Massena, passed away at the Highland Nursing Home, Friday morning, December 21, 2012.
Archie was born January 10, 1946, in Bombay, the son of Herbert L. and Lula M. Anderson Deshane. He attended Bombay School. A marriage to Pauline Dodge ended in separation.
Archie once worked at Foster Grant’s in Massachusetts. He also cut cedar, and worked for John Finnigan farming, and ran his own “Handyman Service.” He enjoyed collecting junk, cutting cedars, handyman work, and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by 10 children, Angela and Thomas Kline, Cambridge, Frederick “Fred” DeShane, Winthrop, Lynn and Larry Ryan, Winthrop, Shawn and Polly DeShane, Massena, Allen DeShane, Tennessee, Amanda and Harold Stark, Winthrop, Nicole Baublitz, Massena, William “Billy” and Samantha Dodge, Malone, Kristy DeShane, Malone, and Devan M. and Destiny DeShane, Malone; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; four sisters, Myrtle Smith, Brasher Iron Works, Avalin Nason, Malone, Stella and Robert LaBrake, Massachusetts, Denise Fullerton, and three brothers, Howard DeShane, Winthrop, Elmer and Debbie DeShane, Massena, and David DeShane, Massena; and an uncle, Harold “Jock” DeShane, Potsdam.
Archie was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister, Lawrence W. DeShane, January 5, 1991, Ralph DeShane, October 16, 2003, Angus DeShane, December 30, 2011, Herbie DeShane, as an infant, and O’Dena DeShane, at the age of 11.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home on Monday, noon to 2 p.m., where a closing prayer will be shared following the visitation. Following cremation, burial will be held at Brasher Iron Works Cemetery.
