Annie Elizabeth Jock, 93, formerly of Akwesasne

Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Jock, 93, formerly of 17 Angus George Blvd, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 20, 2013 at the Cornwall Community Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past few days. She had been a longtime resident of Tsiionkwanonhsote on Cornwall Island.

Annie was born June 27, 1919 in Smith Falls, Ontario, the daughter of the late Dave and Marianne Debo Skidders. She worked for many years as a custodian in Syracuse at the Herald American and the Post Standard Newspapers offices. She also worked at one time at a meat packing plant in Syracuse. After her retirement, she returned back to the reservation, where she became active the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Auxiliary once serving as their president. Annie also operated a fishing business from her home and enjoyed racing cars.

She is survived by her son, Allen Jock of Akwesasne; her chosen son, Louie Peters of Akwesasne; three grandchildren, Allen Jr. and Wanda Jock, and Patricia Sawatis; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews throughout Cornwall, Akwesasne, Ottawa, and Florida.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Jacque J. Jock; two children, Eileen Jock Sawatis and Francis Jock; and her siblings, Margaret Smith, Monique “Minnie” Oakes, Theresa Edwards, Frank and Mike Skidders.

Friends may call at the Homemakers beginning Sunday 4:00 p.m. until Tuesday 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 2:00 p.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, officiating. Burial will be in Kateri Cemetery in the spring.
